SPECIMENS | A Vegan Ode to the Natural World
This 6-inch round wooden panel featuring a gorgeous blue dragonfly is the first in my new “SPECIMENS” art series — a collection of miniature nature altars for insect lovers and collectors of natural curiosities.
A luminous blue dragonfly takes center stage, crafted from meticulously cut and layered paper to mimic the ethereal beauty of real wings — no insects were harmed, making this a vegan-friendly alternative to traditional entomology displays. The background is a moody, rich Payne’s Gray, hand-painted to evoke twilight or the forest floor at dusk.
Surrounding the dragonfly are delicate line drawings of wild plants and blooms in white, gold, and copper — each mark hand-drawn to honor the intricate elegance of botanical forms. A vintage moon, hand-cut from an authentic 1867 shop ledger, hovers above — tying the piece to memory, time, and the unseen cycles of nature.
